Nils and Bonaparte
You Matter Moment
This is an especially powerful You Matter story. It was submitted by Nils who is originally from Berkeley, California and has Asperger’s Syndrome. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and has many interests including American history, foreign films, photography, drawing, playing piano and connecting with other folks with Asperger’s Syndrome. He also wanted me to let you know that he’s in the market for a wife in case you know of anyone!
Hope you enjoy his story as much as I did.
Along with my former history professor Dr. Ali, I founded an organization called “Spectrum” at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. This group is for undergraduate and graduate students on the autism spectrum.
As a person with Asperger’s Syndrome, I often face marginalization and discrimination in hiring practices. This is despite the fact that I have multiple academic degrees. I am currently doing a second Master’s Degree in Library Studies at UNCG.
It is particularly important to share the words “you matter” to people with disabilities such as myself.
