You Matter Moment of the Week

“Sometimes you just know when someone -often a random stranger- needs to be told that they matter.

I was patiently waiting at a big superstore for someone to unlock a case for me. Several others were also waiting at other cases. They were constantly ringing the customer service bell. A young girl came up, and she was frazzled. Everyone wanted her to wait on them first. I stood back and watched. No one said thank you or even smiled at her. When she got to me, I could tell she was about to cry.

I told her what I needed. As she locked the case back, I told her I appreciated the job she was doing, and if she could work in retail then there was no limit to what she could achieve. She told me she was also in college while trying to work every night there. As she turned to leave I handed her the last You Matter card I had. She looked at it and smiled while tears ran down her face. She reached over and hugged me. She left standing a little taller, a smile on her face and that card in her hand.

We all MATTER

I now tell others how I appreciate what they do even if it’s something others consider small.”
