What Does Mattering to Self, Mattering to Others, and Mattering in Society Mean

When we share You Matter cards, we aren’t just handing out paper. We’re telling someone that they are seen and that they belong. But have you ever wondered how that simple act of mattering actually changes our lives, our health, and our world?

At the 2026 Mattering Summit, we’re going to dive deep into exactly that! We have designed the summit around three topics about mattering:

  1. Mattering to Yourself It’s hard to pour from an empty cup. We’ll talk about how to recognize your own value, even on the tough days, and share simple ways to be a little kinder to yourself.
  2. Mattering to Others This is the heart of what we do at the You Matter Marathon! We’ll explore how simple acts of kindness, like sharing a card or truly listening to a friend, can transform your relationships and make your community a friendlier place.
  3. Mattering in the World Mattering shouldn’t stop at our front door. We’ll show you inspiring examples of how schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods are being built so that everyone feels like they have a seat at the table and a voice that is heard.
