You Matter Moment of the Week
“I want everyone to know how much they matter to someone. I feel there are millions of people out there in this sometimes unkind world who need to hear they matter.
On Valentine’s Day I bought 10 heart shaped cookies and put each one in its own plastic bag with a You Matter card taped to the bag. I set out to give these cookies and You Matter cards to people I was led to believe were in need of knowing they mattered. The first man I saw was sitting on the side of the road was obviously an unhoused individual. I stopped my car and greeted him, handed him the cookie and the You Matter card. He started crying and asked why I had stopped for him. I told him he mattered to me, and he cried and told me no one had ever said that to him before. I asked him if I could give him a hug and he stood up and hugged me tightly. Such a simple act of kindness, but it made me feel so good inside. The other people I gave the cookies and the You Matter cards were equally as touched.
Sharing these You Matter cards help me to realize that I can change the lives of others who don’t think they matter. It makes me feel good when I hand out the cards, along with a handshake, or a hug!”
