Why Inclusion Matters

Imagine a world where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves. It’s a world where differences are celebrated, not tolerated, and where everyone has an equal opportunity to participate and contribute. This vision drives us to create a more inclusive and equitable world.

So, what exactly is inclusion? It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, and has the opportunity to participate and contribute. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging where differences are celebrated, not tolerated.

Why does inclusion matter? It’s not just the right thing to do – it’s essential for success. Here’s why:

      • Innovation: When diverse voices are heard and valued, it leads to a richer pool of ideas and a more innovative approach to tackling challenges.1
      • Engagement: When people feel included, they’re more likely to be engaged, productive, and satisfied in their work or any space they occupy. This translates to a stronger community overall.
      • Problem-solving: Diverse perspectives can help identify blind spots and find new solutions to complex problems.

At You Matter Marathon, we believe in creating a space where everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or background, feels safe to share their experiences, ideas, stories, and can simply be themselves.

How can you be part of a more inclusive world? Here are a few tips:

      • Be open-minded and curious: Seek to understand different perspectives and experiences.
      • Challenge your own biases: We all have them, but by recognizing them, we can avoid letting them influence our behavior.
      • Actively listen: Pay attention to what others have to say, and strive to understand their point of view.
      • Speak up and intervene: If you see someone being excluded, intervene in a respectful way.
      • Challenge yourself to share You Matter cards with people in marginalized communities and/or people who you might not otherwise reach out to.

Together, by embracing inclusion, we can create a world where everyone feels like they matter!

You matter.
