Each year, the You Matter Marathon generates countless special moments of connection and appreciation all over the world. I wanted to share an inspiring story from a past marathon with you today.
Emily experienced a special You Matter moment with a young man on
“I received 30 “You Matter” cards in the fall. It has been an honor to share a moment of connection. Most recently, I passed a ‘You Matter’ card to a young man sitting across from me on the subway. I saw the pain and despair on his face and in his body language. The only words that passed between us were, ‘Hey Bud, here. This is for you. Take it, it’s okay.
Having been shown compassion by a stranger, summed up in a card saying ‘You Matter,’ caused a visible shift in him. Reading the card over and again, he smiled to himself, and for a few moments his burden was lessened. As the doors opened at his stop, he gave me a ‘fist bump’ and left. I will likely never learn his name, and he will always have a special place in my heart.”
